Dietetics
Specialization
Dietetics is the
high-tech science of applying food and nutrition to health. It is a vital,
growing field open to creativity and opportunity. Dietitians work hand-in-hand with other medical personnel to
speed the patients' recoveries and later provide groundwork for long-term health. They are responsible for managing the foodservices of healthcare institutions, schools, cafeterias, and restaurants. Careers can also be found in business and
industry as corporations establish nutrition and wellness programs for their
employees.
The program at
SDSU includes courses in nutrition, physiology, chemistry, business, science,
quantity food production, microbiology, psychology, and foodservice. Students can easily graduate with a chemistry
minor.
The Dietetics Program at SDSU is
a CADE (Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education)
approved Didactic Program in Dietetics.
After completion of the bachelor of science degree you are
eligible to apply for and to complete a CADE-accredited supervised practice
program at a healthcare facility, community agency, or a foodservice
corporation. Information and forms for the application to the supervised
practice programs can be obtained from
Dr.
Kattelmann.
